Mr. Rob here with a quick and unfortunate update about the Roku and FireTV apps. In short, they’re both 3+ weeks behind schedule and it’s making us all a little crazy.

Unfortunately, there is very little our team can do about it having outsourced the development to Vimeo’s OTT Platform.

For their part, they’re running into some errors they’re not used to seeing and for their part, they’ve been uploading multiple new versions nearly everyday.

The information we can gleam about the errors is super limited. The email responses from Google and Roku are very generic.

Whatever problems we’re running into didn’t come up in the dev versions of the apps and with this limited feedback, it’s been a serious struggle to get to the bottom of the problems.

I’ve spoken to a lot of you in the chat and over e-mail about this already, and I’ve been in direct contact with multiple people at Vimeo on a daily basis about trying to get things fixed ASAP.

I’m sorry for any frustration this has caused. Believe me when I say that I share your concerns and frustration!

As far as time frames for the Roku and FireTV apps, the Roku channel will likely be available in the 2nd or 3rd week of September. It cleared another hurdle today, but now Roku is saying there’s a 2-3 week channel submission queue :-/

The FireTV app could be fixed at any moment but it’s hard to say when that will be. The folks at Vimeo are constantly submitting new versions with minor fixes to hopefully clear this final problem.

On the plus side, the apps that are up are working great and the feedback has been nothing but positive. There’s also been some development headway in improving those apps and their connection to, but obviously we’re still focused on getting these other platforms up and running first.

Thanks for your patience and your support and let us know if you have any questions.
